Happy Handwriting

Handwriting in cursive on a page with fountain pen

Handwriting is the language of the heart. It is the soul’s way of expressing its innermost self with you in a tangible way you are fully immersed into. The words that make it onto the page are the ones that most need to exist at that point in time. The words you share with yourself create your reality through your interpretation of events that have unfolded. Keep in mind that this is only one part of the story. You write to learn, to decipher, to understand, to vent, to express, and to communicate - to yourself and to others. Handwriting unlocks what’s in your mind and helps you see it. Remember that that is only one part of the puzzle - there is always more to discover and learn. Written across many pages are possibly thoughts, beliefs, and feelings you likely held onto tightly. If you were to revisit those words today, what would still hold true today? What has changed? What developments have taken place in your life? Notice how your handwriting may have changed over time . Are you more stressed out at this stage in your life or less stressed out? Your handwriting can clue you in a bit there. Have tears met your pages as you’ve written? Has ink spread to share in the woe? Writing by hand can be a cathartic measure to shed some of the pain and leave it on the page. Handwriting invites you to think with your hand. Where do the loops want to go? What’s the next word, letter, punctuation? Which word offers what you most want to say in this moment? How can you express yourself in the clearest way? How much you write by hand depends on what you need and crave to uncover. The joy of handwriting is an experience to behold.

I wrote this for Handwriting Day. I started off the page by writing Happy Handwriting and was going to write Day afterward, but liked it better with the two words. The happiest handwriting is the one that can truly express itself.

What are your thoughts on handwriting?
